Presbytery of the Trans-Xhariep: Events Calendar

Ash Wednesday / First Day of Lent

Description: Commemorating: The 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness.

Celebration: Beginning a season of reflection and preparation whilst approaching Easter. By observing the 40 days of Lent, Christians replicate Jesus Christ's sacrifice and withdrawal into the desert for 40 days. Lent is marked by fasting, both from food and festivities.

Scheduling: Annually, 40 days before Easter.

Seasonal Preface:
"And now we give you thanks
that you call your people to repent
and renew them in your Spirit,
so that we may turn away from all evil desires
and live to your glory
with our minds set on the things that are above,
where our life is hid with Christ (Col 3:2f.)."
